Edgy guitars are to the fore for Envy & Other Sins’ Prodigal Son, a lively breath of fresh air that makes a welcome break from all the Xmas No.1 fixated pop nightmares that are flooding the marketplace this week. The track boasts some decent melodies and a distinct vocal style (think Super Furry Animals mixed with rocky Starsailor) that certainly marks them out as ones to watch for the future. The band is comprised of Ali M Forbes (vocals, guitar), Jarvey KJ Moss (vocals, synthesizer, piano), Mark E Lees (vocals, bass) and James I Macaulay (drums). The promo we were sent boasts a crisp single version and an altogether more epic longer one that includes a rousing intro that sets the ensuing track up really well. Like I said, expect to be hearing a lot more from Envy & Other Sins in 2006.
