Envy And Other Sins are four flat-capped, neckerchief-fiddling rapscallions from Birmingham, who tonight treat the already sinful crowd - the band have laid on a free buffet - to a set of extremely polished pop-rock pomp. Flanked by images of debauched splendour and flagon-gulping naughtiness, this group of marauding dandies sound like an episode of Blackadder III directed by Freddie Mercury, produced by Jellyfish and edited by Matt Bellamy.
Undeniable highlights strike forth in the form of the uproriously anthemic 'Prodigal Son' and the heavy-stomping choruses of the Franz-ified 'Step Across'. Envy And Other Sins are also the only band out there to namecheck the Roman river Rubicon in one of their songs. And while looking to the past for musical inspiration isn't much of a new thing these days, having a 1920s labourer playing a Yamaha onstage is definitely a novelty. And a downright spiffing one at that.
